Kenwood DF520 Customer Reviews & Comments

Super chips

I bought this in August 2008, based upon good reviews. It replaced a Moulinex deep fat fryer which was awful. This Kenwood feels sturdy, is well made and, most importantly for chips, gets to a high temperature with little danger of fat spilling or spitting over.

If you are a fan of proper chips - not silly little French fries - this Kenwood does the business. Make sure you have Maris Piper potatoes. Cook on low temperature for about 6 minutes, drain, raise the temperature to the hottest it can go, and deep fry for less than a minute. Crisp, but moist inside, chips. It is also easy to keep clean.

One small gripe - the rubber feet come off too easily and are a menace to get back on.

Easy to clean

I bought this fryer because it is the only one I have found that takes apart to clean & from that point of view it is very good. However, the outside casing is too big to go in the (full size) dishwasher. Be a bit careful if you haven t got much worktop space because it is quite a big beast but the basket is pretty small compared with the size of the casing. Don t get carried away by the viewing window. I ve never yet come across a fryer where you can see anything, anyway it s dark in there. It s easy enough just to lift the basket & open the lid.

Good value fryer - basket is a little small

I have used this to fry samosas, spring rolls and other savouries and they have turned out fine. So far the fryer has been easy to use, the timer is quite handy too and it is easy to dismantle for cleaning.

On the downside; the frying basket is quite small and the viewing window steams up easily hence 4 stars, but the lid is easy enough to open to check contents. Otherwise a great product particularly because it can be cleaned easily. I really shopped around before buying this one and would recommend as it represents goood value for money at under £40.
